Entertainment Assist says thank you to our Founding Directors
Entertainment Assist was founded by Wal Bishop OAM, Ian B Allen AM, and the late Dennis Smith. They shared a passion for philanthropy and extensive experience in organising events throughout Australia.
One such event, a fundraiser for Max Merritt, held special significance as Wal had worked closely with Max Merritt for years and produced the event, Out From Under, to raise awareness about suicide across the entertainment industry. During the process of seeking donations from the entertainment industry and other sources, they were surprised to encounter significant mental health issues. This experience led them to realise the pressing need for an entertainment industry charity dedicated to supporting individuals with their mental health challenges and operating with the utmost of transparency, and accountability.
With the invaluable pro bono legal support from Arnold Bloch Liebler, Entertainment Assist was established with a clear vision of providing meaningful assistance to those in the industry. Becoming the founding directors, united by the goal of creating a positive impact on the lives of entertainment workers. Over the years they strived to foster a culture of mental wellbeing, empowering individuals, and organisations to prioritise their mental health and thrive in their entertainment careers.
At the core of the mission, they were driven by prevention-based measures, recognising the significance of proactively addressing mental health challenges within the entertainment industry. By focusing on prevention and early intervention, they aimed to equip individuals with the tools and resources needed to maintain positive mental wellbeing throughout their careers. Their commitment to fostering a mentally healthy environment for entertainment workers guided their efforts in providing world-first research, support, resources, and programs that prioritised mental wellness and resilience for the industry and its workers.
