If you're feeling suicidal or are concerned about someone who is, call Suicide Call Back Service on 1300 659 467 for free counselling, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

If a friend is posting about self-harm, Facebook has a tool to Report Suicidal Content.

Several organisations offer general mental health and wellbeing support, and these include:

    A comprehensive list of around 470 websites, apps, online programmes, forums, chat and email resources relating to mental health services, funded by the Australian Government.

  • Conversations Matter (how to have conversations about suicide) 

  • Beyond Blue’s Support Service – 1300 22 4636 – for information and advice on depression, anxiety and related conditions, available treatments and where to get help. The information line is not a counselling or crisis line. 

    • Beyond Blue resources, including fact sheets, booklets, flyers and DVDs. These resources can be ordered online or over the phone 

    • Beyond Blue website, for information on depression, anxiety and suicide prevention, available treatments and where to get help 

    • Youth Beyond Blue, for information designed for young people on depression, anxiety and how to help a friend

  • SANE Australia’s website and Helpline – 1800 18 SANE (7623) provides information about symptoms, treatments, medications, where to go for support and help for carers. Information and advice 9am-5pm weekdays. 

  • MensLine Australia 1300 78 99 78 for tools to help men take action for depression and anxiety 

  • Lifeline – support and advice about things that are not going so well in life or on how to help others 13 11 14
